Gidansda’s Moon and Mountain Goat Chest, and Chief’s Settee

April 2017-December 2018
On loan from the American Museum of Natural History, the lineage of the Moon & Mountain Goat chest spans back at least seven generations of Hereditary Leaders from the Gaykyals KiiGawaay clan of Skedans. In April 2017, the chest participated in a memorial potlatch honouring the late chief Gidansda, Percy Williams. The next day, Guujaaw took on the responsibility of this hereditary position and the name Gidansda in an inauguration potlatch in which the chest played a central role. The new Gidansda gifted twenty-five large coppers from the chest to Hereditary Leaders and other honoured guests. The chest is on exhibition at our museum through December 2018.
