Haida repatriation

Displayed Permanently
Permanent Exhibit

The story of how the Haida brought home the remains of their ancestors and developed lasting partnerships with museums around the world. Over the course of 15 years, beginning in 1995, the Haida approached Canadian and U.S. museums with requests for the return of their ancestors’ skeletal remains. The remains of over 600 ancestors have been returned to date, and the movement has inspired an unprecedented number of gifts of Haida historic objects from individuals across Canada and the U.S. A combination of video clips, text and images relates the story.
